Marvels

I just went to Midtown Comics and bought Marvels HC- and I must say I was suprised by this delightful book. It was wonderfully bound, and had a great picture of Spider-Man on the front cover.
The story is about this journalist/photographer who is trying to fullfill what he thinks his destiny is- photographing a collection of pictures all with a common theme- Marvels, which is his name for the local superheroes. It covers many classic issues, like the coming of Galactus, and the death of Gwen Stacy.
For me, the main superhero in this book is Spider-Man. In the final part, Busiek weaves a tale of the journalist's own personal quest to prove that Spider-Man was not responsible for the death of Captain Stacy, and it all boils up to the shocking climax with a battle between the Green Goblin and Spider-Man, with Gwen Stacy caught in the middle!
I highly reccommend this book- it is a delight to read!

Venom: Dark Origin Mini-Series

Has anyone read the Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One book? I'm sure that if you have, you will have placed Zeb Wells as one of your favorite authors. Year One presents the origin of Doctor Octopus from his own point of view. Well, now Zeb Wells is returning with another Year One-themed book named Venom: Dark Origin.
The story tells you about Eddie Brock and his life before and after his attachment to the symbiotic being that Spider-Man himself once wore. It is supposed to reveal much more about Eddie Brock's own life than anyone has previously known. I hope that they keep the origin close to ASM #300, unlike the animated series and the movie which deviated. And he better not turn into a soppy character like he is today. The original idea was that he actually liked the costume, and he was on a personal vendetta against Spider-Man because he had ruined his life when he revealed the real Sin-Eater. Today, in the comics, it's all 'Why did you do this to me?' because of the costume.
I'll pick up the premiere HC when it comes out, and it better be good. I think that the Venom will be like the modern one, mainly because that's the one everybody is most familiar with.

Spider-Man 4

I hope that Sony does another Spider-Man movie- the last three were amazing. There is currently a date for 2011, the same date as the new 'Avengers' movie, but there is no word that Sam Raimi,Tobey Maquire or Kirsten Dunst are signed up for it and there is currently no screenplay. Sony has paid Marvel Studios to be the Studio for the new movie, which is a good thing, as Marvel was the Studio for the movies Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. Somebody has spread a romour that the plot for Spider-Man 4 will either envolve Carnage or Lizard as the main villians, and the Clone Saga as the main plot. There has even been a small fan-work of what Carnage would look like.

Iron-Spider Costume.

Who liked the Iron Spider Costume from Civil War? I prefered the original costume, but I thought this was cool for a temporary costume. I particularly enjoyed this costume because, in a way, it was similar to the symbiote costume. This is because of a small plate on his back, where three metal legs can be created from liquidised metal.
I also found out that this was actually a 'welcome back' costume from Anthony Stark, aka Iron Man, when Peter was supposedly killed, and reborn.
I would have prefered if the costume was different. It is just too modern for me. I would have liked it to be a strange and different costume, different from the ones we are used to. Not exactly colourful, but not to the extent that he has just one color on him. It could have opened up a darker part to his life- similar to the Reign series.
What did you think?

The Spectacular Spider-Man Cartoon

Has anyone seen the new Spider-Man cartoon yet? I have not, but I will. I have, however, gathered some information. It appears that Peter Parker, the spectacular Spider-Man, has just finished his summer school holiday and this series details his many adventures and villain battles. I cannot wait to see the look of the new villians- escpesially the new scorpion.
The animation, though, looks a little bit childish. It looks like it will be aimed at children below the age of 10, and that kind of puts me off a bit. Spider-Man should be for all ages, not just small children. I'll still check it out though. I saw a pic of Venom- His symbiote face looked by all means good, but his human face?... not so much. I'm hoping the dialogue will be better.
